KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday said his government had launched work on bringing improvement to the country’s security situation.
The president said this while talking to Germany’s defence minister Ursula von der Leyen, who called on him at the Presidential Palace in Kabul, a statement from the palace said.
The statement said the two sides conferred on topics concerning bilateral relations, regional situation, the war against terrorism, the Afghan peace process and economic issues.
President Ghani thanked Germany for its assistance to the people of Afghanistan in many areas, saying German troops had played a crucial role in northern Afghanistan.
“Improvement in Afghanistan’s security is the new government’s top priority and work on it has been started,” the statement quoted President Ghani as saying.
It quoted the German defence minister as saying that her country would continue assisting Afghans in the framework of the “Resolute Support” — the post-2014 mission in Afghanistan.
