MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Work on a road project, financed by the World Bank, was launched in northern Faryab province on Monday.

With the construction project connecting Khan Charbagh district with the Aqina-Andkhoi highway, bus fares are expected to fall and transportation of farm products will be facilitated

Governor Mohammadullah Batash told Pajhwok Afghan News the construction of the eight kilometers road was being funded by the World Bank. The seven metres wide road would take 40 days to complete.

He hoped the project costing 50 million afghanis would provide transportation facility for around 70,000 residents of Khan Charbagh district.

District development council head Mohammad Ismail Nazari said that the road, constructed 10 years ago, had been damaged with the passage of time.

“Most of Khan Charbagh residents are either farmers or carpet weavers. The road would facilitate them in transporting their crops to the market and reduce travel time from 30 to 10 minutes,” he added.
