KABUL Club in Bulawayo on Friday, thanks to a magnificent half century Sean Williams.

Batting first, the national side posted a modest total of 223 runs in the opener of the four-match ODI series, Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Samiullah Shinwari top-scored with 65 runs off 85 balls, including one six and three fours. Opener Noor Ali Zadran contributed 43 runs off 107 balls with four shots to fence.

But Mohammad Nabi (skipper) smashed a breezy 54 off 32 balls, lending somewhat impetus to the Afghan total. He struck three towering sixes and as many boundaries to reach his fifty in 28 balls.

In response, Sean Williams smacked a half century and skipper Brendan Taylor made 42 to see Zimbabwe romping home with six wickets in hand and more than four overs to spare.

Williams, who shared a 93-run stand with Taylor, hit 70 off 65 balls with eight boundaries and a six, Hotak said, adding that Taylor chipped in with 43 off 52 deliveries.

Zimbabwe’s opener Vusi Sibanda was cheaply dismissed for four in the third over. However, then Williams put on 85 with Elton Chigumbura before his dismissal. Sikandar Raza smacked an unbeaten 42 and Chigumbura 32 not out.
