MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Mohaqiq on Thursday condemned the latest Human Rights Watch (HRW) report as a bid to fuel differences among the Afghans.

Speaking to a gathering that marked the 20th death anniversary of Abdul Ali Mazari, the founder of Hizb-i-Wahdat party, in Mazar-i-Sharif, Mohaqiq slammed the report as a conspiracy to divide the people.

Mohaqiq alleged some international forces wanted to realise their evil designs by keeping the Afghans fighting over trivial issues. Without going into details, he said the creation of Islamic State (IS) was part of that conspiracy.

The HRW report — Today We Shall All Die: Afghanistan‘s Strongmen and the Legacy of Impunity — said the previous Afghan government and the United States had enabled powerful and abusive individuals to commit atrocities for too long without being held to account.

The report released on Tuesday (March 3) called on President Ashraf Ghani and his government to prosecute the officials and commanders “whose serious human rights abuses have long gone unpunished.”
