KABUL (Pajhwok): Four people have been arrested for allegedly burning to death a woman in Kabul as the incident is under investigation, an official said on Friday.
The incident took place when a woman set fire to the Quran. Dozens of people started beating her with sticks and then burnt her. Security officials accepted police had failed to stop the mob.
Siddique Siddiqui, spokesman for the interior minister, told Pajhwok Afghan News police had arrested four people for their alleged involvement in killing the woman.
Killing a person without due legal process is a serious crime, the spokesman admitted, saying police had started an investigation into the incident.
Hamidullah, an eyewitness, said the mob beat the woman to death after she burnt the Quran and then they torched her body before throwing it into the Kabul River.
