NEILI (Pajhwok): Residents of Khadir district in central Daikundi province on Thursday complained about activities of armed gangs involved in thefts and troubling residents.
An illegal group robbed people more than 10 times last year alone, residents claimed. Apart from money, they even stole people’s gold ornaments and other items.
Haji Nawroz, a local elder, told Pajhwok Afghan News passenger vehicles coming from Neili and Ashtarli to Khadir have been forced to pay ransom.
He said in an incident last week a vehicle of students, who were on their way to Kabul, was stopped and all their money and mobile phones were snatched.
Mohammad Asif, another resident, said the armed group was comprised of 50 to 60 gunmen, was led by Mohammad Naser.
Abdul Qader Rahimi, Khadir administrative department head, acknowledged the illegal activities of the group, saying majority of them were drug addicts.
He added they came out of their hideouts intermittently. “We have taken a firm decision to detain this group as soon as possible.”
