KABUL on Friday against last week’s lynching of a young Afghan girl in the heart of Kabul, reports said.
A noise by a handful of young men “a girl has burnt the holy Quran” was more than enough to make people running toward the door of Shah-Do Shamshera shrine on March 19.
Dozens of men, mostly young boys, thronged the shrine where a woman — wearing Farkhanda was being tossed around by an angry mob. She was put to death and her body torched..
The Ministries of Interior and Hajj, as well as a fact-finding committee, say their investigations show no Quran burning incident had taken place at all.
Mohammad Yasin Karimi wrote on his Facebook page hundreds of Indian and Afghan students took to the streets to denounce Farkhanda’s killing as a brutal act.
“Enacting the tragic scene, one of the students lying on the ground was stoned and kicked by his fellow,” he wrote. The protestors execrated brainless violence in the name of religion.
In neighbouring Pakistan, a protest meeting was held against the killing of the 27-year-old at the Press Club in the northwestern city of Peshawar.
Afghan journalist Abdul Haq Omari said dozens civil society, youth and students took part in the protest. They asked the Afghan government to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Maulvi Mohiuddin Baloch, head of the committee investigating the killing, told journalists a day earlier that she was innocent. Twenty-seven suspects held in connection with the murder would be referred to the AGO.
