Policemen among 5 dead in fresh bout of violence
KABUL (Pajhwok): Three police officers have been killed in separate security incidents in northern Baghlan and Faryab provinces, officials said Wednesday.
A civilian was killed in a bomb explosion in northwestern Badghis province. A security official in Baghlan told Pajhwok Afghan News two policemen were killed when their pick-up they were travelling in hit by a roadside bomb in Gujrabad area of Dahna-i-Ghori district last night.
A resident of the area Mohammad Nasim identified the slain policemen as Gul Mohammad and Zulmai. He said the dead bodies of the policemen were still laying at the incident scene.
However, a Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed killing a police commander along with six policemen and seizing their pick-up, a rocket, four Kalashnikovs and some ammunition.
Separately, a policeman was mysteriously killed in a security post on Maimana-Almar Highway in Faryab province.
The Almar district police Chief Col. Sayed Aqa Faryabi said Ayatullah, the commander of the check post, was killed mysteriously last night. He said the reason of his killing was unclear.
But a provincial council member Abdul Manan said that Ayatullah’s death was internal dispute among policemen.
He said Ayatullah was patrolling in the area when he was shot dead by his colleagues.
Faryab forensic director of public health department also confirmed the police commander had six gun shots on his body.
Elsewhere, a civilian was killed and two others wounded in a roadside bombing in Maqur district of Badghis province.
In another incident, a tribal elder was killed by unknown gunmen in Jawand district of Badghis early this morning.
