13 dead, 27 hurt in two traffic mishaps

GHAZNI CITY/MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): At least 13 persons were killed and 27 others were wounded in two separate traffic accidents in southern Ghazni and central Maidan Wardak provinces, officials said Saturday.

Four passengers were killed and 16 others injured when a mini bus collided head-on with another car in Aziz Kala area of Ghazni City on Kabulinfo-icon-Kandahar highway this morning, the governor’s spokesman said.

Shafiq Nang told Pajhwok Afghan News the dead and wounded included womeninfo-icon and children also.

Baz Mohammad Himat, director Ghazni Civil Hospital, confirmed receiving four dead and 16 wounded but said four of the wounded persons were in critical condition.

Separately, 20 passengers suffered casualties in a accident in Maidan Wardak province.

Governor’s spokesman Attaullah Khogyani said the accident took place when a mini bus veered off the road in Oni Kotal area of Jalrez district around 5:00 am this morning.

He said nine passengers including four women and two children died and 11 others injured in the accident.

The wounded were shifted to Kabul hospitals but two of them were in critical condition, he added. Road accidents usually happen as a result of reckless driving and uneven road condition of Kabul-Kandahar Highway.
