Farkhanda’s murderers be given exemplary punishment

Farkhanda’s murderers be given exemplary punishment

Apr 04, 2015 - 17:11

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A number of enraged protesters took to the streets in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, and demanded the government to award exemplary punishment to those involved in the gruesome killing of Farkhanda.

A mob beat Farkhanda to death on March 18 before setting her body on fire. She was accused of burning a copy of the holy Quraninfo-icon, a charge rejected by the Ministry of Hajjinfo-icon and Religious Affairs.

At least 47 people, including 19 policemen, have been held in connection with her killing. Police officials were also fired for not dealing with protesters with an iron hand that led to the murder of Farkhanda.

A huge demonstration attended by male and female was organized by Afghanistaninfo-icon Unity Party (AUP) and demanded a thorough probe into her killing.

Aashiq Ullah Gharzai, the AUP chief in eastern zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “More than one hundred males and females participated in the protest and sought justice for Farkhanda.

Weda, a female protester, said: “We demand the government to launch serious efforts in Farkhanda’s case. The perpetrators should be given exemplary punishment.”

Earlier, President Ashraf Ghani met family members of Farkhanda and ensured complete support to bring the culprits to justice.
