Policemen among 10 dead in Farah skirmish
FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): At least five policemen, four militants and a prayer leader were killed in the ongoing fighting between rebels and security forces in the Poshtrud district of western Farah province, an official said Saturday.
The gun battle erupted Friday night when over a hundred rebels stormed the Afghan Local Police (ALP) check posts in the Maswa and Kharaba villages, the town’s administrative chief said.
Ghausuddin told Pajhwok Afghan News intense gun battle was underway between forces and militants and four policemen wounded in the ensuing firefight.
He said Taliban suffered heavy casualties but he had no exact toll into fatalities. The mobile phone tower had been damaged in the exchange of fire, which suspended communication in the area.
The district chief said reinforcement by the Afghan National Army (ANA) had been dispatched to the area to back the police force.
Taliban claimed killing six security personnel and injuring four others.
