Steps being taken to stabilize investment sector: President
According to a statement from the Presidential Palace, Ghani expressed these views in his meeting with a number of industrialists on Friday evening.
The meeting was attended by ministers of interior, mines and petroleum, commerce, deputy finance minister, deputy head of Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) and head of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS).
Sher Baz Kaminzada head of the Afghanistan Association of National Industry (AANI) on behalf of industrialists told the president that AANI was formed with membership of 27 entities.
More than one million workers were associated with different industries across the country, he added.
Despite multiple problems being faced by the investors, they were striving to produce carpets, handicrafts, marbles, non-alcoholic beverages, foods items, printing industries, plastic sector, packages, furniture, metal industry, construction materials, flour, cleaning items and other industries, Kaminzada said.
In addition, at least 3,000 small and big factories with investment of $1.6 billion have been established by the industrialists that generated work opportunities for more than one million people in the past one decade, he recalled.
He also shared problems being faced by the investors with the president and demanded creation of chamber of industry to resolve their challenges.
The statement added that the president thanked them for their investments in Afghanistan. “I assure you the government will do everything it can for the improvement of investment sectors in the country,” Ghani said.
The president also assured the chamber of industry would be established based on the industrialists’ suggestions after the minister for commerce won trust vote.
Ghani stressed improvement in quality of domestic products and said that clothes, shoes and all food items should be produced inside the country.
He added all contracts being signed with companies would be transparent and shared with the people. The president said he directed the ministry of finance to reform the custom tariff annually to encourage investment in the country.
