3 smugglers detained with drugs, chemicals
FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least three smugglers were detained in northeastern Badakhshan province with 20 kilograms of heroin and half ton of chemicals, officials said on Sunday.
Lt. Gen. Baba Jan, police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the heroin was skillfully placed in compartments of a Toyota Corolla car which was impounded in Argo district. Two alleged smugglers were held, he added.
The chemicals, used for making heroin and other drugs, were also seized in the same district. According to Baba Jan, the smugglers were on their way to Sheghnan and Shkashm districts and Tajikistan.
Last week, acting governor Shah Wali Adib had stated that because of a rise in demand for drugs in Central Asian Republics and European countries, smuggling and poppy cultivation had also increased in Badakhshan.
