Policemen among 21 dead in Farah fighting
FARAH (Pajhwok): At least 15 insurgents, five policemen and a civilian have been killed in Poshtrod district of western Farah province, an official said on Sunday.
Ghausuddin, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News hundreds of Taliban fighters stormed local police check posts in Masaw and Kharaba localities.
The fierce fighting, he added, started at 9:00 pm on Saturday night and continued for hours until the insurgents escaped from the area.
The bodies of 15 Taliban fighters were still lying in the area. A policeman and four other personnel were also dead in the firefight.
He added 12 more local policemen, five civilians and dozens of insurgents were injured in the exchange of fire.
He said five civilians were also wounded in Chin village as a result of air strikes. It was not clear who had carried out the airstrikes.
Lal Mohammad, a resident of Chin who was also injured in the attack, said a woman, two children and two men were among the fatalities.
