Art exhibition depicting Farkhunda opens in Herat

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): An art exhibition showcasing artistic works by womeninfo-icon to depict the brutal murder of Farkhunda opened on Tuesday in western Herat province.

The exhibition titled “Justice for Farkhunda” was inaugurated at Alama Saljoqi hall in Herat City.

Benafsha Sahra, one of the organizers, told Pajhwok Afghan News 40 art pieces condemning Farkhunda’s murder were put on display. She said the exhibition was aimed at seeking justice for an innocent live that was brutally taken.

Saeeda Anwari, another artist, said she wanted to condemn Farkhunda’s killing through her art.

Aria Raufian, acting head of the information and culture department, said he welcomed such exhibitions with a strong social message. “These artists have raised their voice to demand justice and respect for women.”

Farkhunda, 27, was brutally killed and her body set alight in the heart of Kabulinfo-icon by an angry mob alleging she had burnt a copy of the holy Quraninfo-icon.

Investigations by a special fact-finding commission, the ministries of hajjinfo-icon and interior had found Farkhunda innocent.

Last week, President Ghani announced his government would make it sure that justice was delivered in Farkhunda murder case.
