Tanai district chief detained for misusing authority
KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): The attorney's office in southeastern Khost province on Wednesday said the Tanai district administrative chief had been arrested and was being investigated for misusing his authority.
Attorney Mohammad Shoaib Sabit, told a press conference that the district chief, Javed Joshan, had taken a disputed land from one party and given it to another without any legal process.
In order to get rid of the problem, the district chief retook the land from the person and returned it to his rival again, sparking a gun-battle between the two sides.
“One person was injured in the clash, but his condition is stable. Clear and valid evidence showing the detained district chief has misused his authority is available with us,” Sabit told reporters in Khost City, the provincial capital.
The district chief is sent to the central jail in Khost City and he will be produced before the court on Thursday, according to the attorney.
Pajhwok tried to seek comment from the district chief or those involved in the conflict over the land, but to no avail.
Joshan is the sixth high-ranking official to be detained and prosecuted by the attorney's office over the past one year in Khost.
However, the office is yet to share information about the progress in their cases with media representatives.
