Self-proclaimed IS leader killed in Samangan
KABUL (Pajhwok): Khal Mirza, the self-proclaimed regional commander of the dreaded Daesh or Islamic State in northern Samangan province, has been killed in a special police operation while one of his associates detained, police said Thursday.
Mohammad Akram Bekzad, police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the operations were conducted Wednesday afternoon in Khwaja Momin and Manqotan localities of Aibak City, the provincial capital.
The detainee Adam, he added, had been arrested with an AK-47. Khairullah Anosh, Samangan acting governor, said Khal Mirza was a so-called Daesh commander and claimed to be the head of the Islamic State in Samangan some 20 days back. The slain commander, he said had started anti-state activities.
A resident of Manqotan locality wishing anonymity said Khal Mirza and other of his accomplices extorted money and food from residents.
