Afghan geologists find 1,400 mineral deposits
KABUL (Pajhwok): A senior Ministry of Mines and Petroleum official on Sunday said Afghan geologists had found 1,400 mineral deposits after hectic efforts with the help of high quality geological maps in the country.
Abdul Qudos Hameedi said this while addressing a gathering to mark Geologist Day in Kabul.
He said the untapped riches were found during researches conducted by the ministry’s geologists despite harsh weather conditions and insecurity.
“Our experts have major achievements including the exploration and identification of 1,400 locations of natural resources of crude oil, coal, gold, metal and precious stones after working through difficult weather conditions.”
Back in 2010, US geologists announced that Afghanistan had abundant reservoirs of precious natural resources such as copper, iron, gold and critical industrial metals like lithium worth $1 trillion.
But the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum put the value of Afghanistan’s natural resources at more than $3 trillion.
