Alleviating plight of refugees top priority: CEO

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Sunday said that the government had a focus to resolve refugees’ problems on priority basis.

Abdullah expressed these views during a meeting on national strategy to tackle refugees’ problems. A number of other senior officials attended the meeting.

He underlined a braod-based strategy to effeciently address problems faced by the Internally Displace Persons (IDPs) and refugees living in foreign counties.

The previous government did not pay heed to refugees’ problems, he said, pledging the incumebtn government was working an inclusive strategy to facitlitate refugees and IDPs.

He urged the international community and civil societyinfo-icon organizations to play their due role to address the lingering refugees’ related issues and their repatriation.

Minister for Refugees and Repatriation Syed Hussain Alami Balkhi said he had reached on an agreement with Pakistaninfo-icon to register all refugees and the process was underway there.

He asked representatives of several institutes to explain their plans how they could help government to settle the refugees’ problems.

He said the number of IDPs was 840,000 and a fresh survey would be launched soon to identify latest figure.
