President to visit Iran, India in near future
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday said he would be soon visiting Iran and India as part of Afghanistan’s efforts to increase solidarity and develop consensus among regional and Islamic countries.
Talking to lawmakers from Khost, Paktia, Paktika and Logar provinces at the Presidential Palace, the president said Afghanistan’s current challenges were the legacy of decades of war.
He said the unity government could not quickly perform some tasks during its initial days due differences inherited from the past.
Ghani said the international community was leaving Afghanistan some months ago, provoking thoughts that some provinces would fall into the hands of militants. “But the situation has changed and we are now out of the crisis,” the president noted.
Ghani said he had been working since the unity government was formed about seven months ago on improving the country’s law and order situation and monitoring the performance of security institutions in person.
He said his government was also focusing on economy and good governance to improve the lifestyle of ordinary citizens.
