JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Police in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday detained six people, including a university student, over their alleged involvement in insurgent activities.

Police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashraqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News the detainees had hands in anti-state activities in Batikot district. The pair was arrested in the Rodad district following a tip-off.

Among the detainees, he said Hasibullah, the resident of Narkh district in central Maidan Wardak province and student of literature faculty in Nangarhar University, was among those arrested persons.

A statement from the governor house said three people had been held early morning in connection with the killing of Salih Mohammad, head of the Kunar uprising group.

The alleged killers had been arrested during a clearing operation conducted by joint security forces, the statement said, adding the detainees were in the custody of intelligence officials for interrogation.

Separately, anti-narcotics officials said 15 kilograms of hashish have been recovered from a car in the Samarkhel locality of Behsud district.

In Laghman, one Talibaninfo-icon fighter was killed during a clash with Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers.

The clash erupted in the Alingar district when Afghan security forces’ convoy came under militants’ attack, a statement from the 201st Selab Military Corps said.

Elsewhere, the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) had detained the Taliban shadow district chief along with his six associates in southern Ghazni province, the spy service said in a statement.

Bismillah, known as Taib was the Taliban’s shadowy chief for Arjistan district and was nabbed during a clearing operation, the statement added.
