8 rebels, police officer killed in Jawzjan clashes
SHIBERGHAN/ MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Eight militants and a police officer were killed on Thursday during clashes in northern Jawzjan province, while elsewhere three men transferring military uniform to the Taliban were detained in Faryab, officials said .
Jawzjan police chief Brig. Gen. Faqir Muhammad Jawzjani told Pajhwok Afghan News the eight militants were killed during face-to-face clashes with police in Jangal Areegh and Bish Gapa areas of Mardyan and Aqcha districts. He said one police officer got killed and another policeman was wounded during the clashes.
A resident, Asadullah, said the clashes came during an ongoing operation in the areas, forcing residents to flee homes. He said there were no casualties among civilians.
In Faryab, three suspected insurgents supplying military dresses to the Taliban were arrested in Khwaja Sabzposh district.
Provincial police chief Col. Abdul Nabi Elham identified the detainees as Mullah Nasir, Khalil and Shah Mohammad, residents of were Sherin Tagab district. They were detained in Qulghan village.
“In the initial investigations, they have confessed that the Taliban intended to use the military uniform in their attacks.”
