5 attackers enter Lashkargah police station
LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Five heavily armed militants wearing Afghan Local Police (ALP) uniform have entered a police building in the capital of southern Helmand province, fighting with security forces, an official said on Sunday.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the police official said two attackers opened fire at police guards manning the gate of the police station in Lashkargah’s first police district, allowing three other militants to enter the building in a car.
He said both the sides were exchanging gunfire as of 8pm, an hour after the attack began. He had no information about casualties.
Some sources said so far four police injured in the gunbattle had been taken to hospital.
The police station in-charge, Jan Agha, confirmed the group attack, which he said started shortly after 7pm.
Eyewitnesses said the attack began with a loud explosion and gunfire could still be heard.
