Lawmakers survive militant attack
KABUL (Pajhwok): Influential lawmakers, including first deputy speaker Haji Zahir Qadir, on Sunday survived a militant attack on their convoy on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway.
The Wolesi Jirga in a televised statement said first deputy speaker Haji Zahir Qadir, lawmakers Mirwais Yasini and Hazrat Ali were on their way to Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, to investigate Saturday’s bombing when the convoy was ambushed.
The attack was repulsed by security forces and the three lawmakers stayed unhurt, the statement said.
The lower house condemned the attack and asked security forces to hunt elements responsible for the attack and ensure security of the strategically important highway.
The suicide attack in Jalalabad killed 35 people and injured 124 others and a follow up bombing killed one civilian and injured four others.
A family member of Yasini confirmed the attack on the lawmaker.
