20 militants holed up in Aibak house, clash on
MAZAR-I-SHARIF/AIBAK (Pajhwok): Security forces entered an encounter with at least 20 armed militants holed up in a house in the capital of northern Samangan province on Tuesday, the governor said.
Khairullah Anosh told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash broke out after security forces launched an operation on the house in Zandan Dara area of Aibak on the basis of an intelligence report.
His spokesman, Mohammad Sadiq Azizi, said the insurgents, led by Mullah Basher, had gathered in the house to plan a group attack in the city.
On receiving a tip-off, he said, security forces launched an operation on the house, sparking a gunbattle with the insurgents inside. The clash was still underway.
He said there were no casualties among security forces as yet and he had no information about casualties among the insurgents.
A resident of the area said six insurgents, including commander Mullah Basher, were killed and one militant captured alive by the security forces.
He said so far three policemen had also been killed.
