13 dead, scores hurt in traffic mishaps last month

CHARIKARinfo-icon (Pajhwok): At least 13 persons have been killed and 36 others wounded in a total 17 traffic accidents in central Parwan province in the past one month, an official said on Saturday.

Traffic Department Director Miharabuddin Parwani told Pajhwok Afghan News the figures showed that casulities caused by traffic accidents increased by two-fold compared with the previous month on the road between Bagram and Salang tunnel.

Last month, eight people lost their lives and 10 others wounded critically in traffic accidents. The offical said children, womeninfo-icon and senior citizens were among the dead and wounded.

Parwani said traveling on highways increased in the spring season as more people came out to visit northern parts of the country.

Sharing exact details, the official said as many as 210 traffic accidents took place last year on northeran highway/ He said that increasing number of vehicals on highway was another reason for surge in accidents.

According to Parwani, around 4,000 heavy and small vehicals were plying on northern highway on daily basis. In additon, he said majority of the drivers did not properly pursue or know about traffic rules.

Abdul Hamid,25, a driver, said the road is small with too many vehicles, which caused accidents.
