Laghman mortar attack leaves 5 dead, 11 hurt
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least five members of a family have been killed and 11 others wounded when a mortar shell hit a house in eastern Laghman province, an official said.
Sarhadi Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in Mango area of Alingar district last evening.
Five members of a family were killed including four women and 11 others wounded when the mortar shell fired by rebels hit a civilian house. Women and children were among the wounded, he said.
Dr. Abdul Latif Qayumi, public health director, confirmed receiving 11 wounded, with some of the injured were in critical condition and shifted to Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar.
Sayed Mohammad, a resident of Alingar district said the mortar shell targeted a civilian house when the fight was underway between rebels and security forces.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed wounding three security personnel in a mortar shell attack in Mango area of Alingar district.
Acting Laghman governor Dr. Fazlullah Mujadidi condemned the rebels attack and it was an inhuman act.
