HIA flays 1978 coup, celebrates April 28
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Pro-government Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) faction led by Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal on Monday held a gathering in eastern Nangarhar province to denounce the 1978 military coup and celebrate April 28 as Mujahidin Victory Day.
Muallim Abdul Halim, HIA office head in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, told Pajhwok Afghan News they arranged the gathering to pay tribute to mujahidain who fought the red army bravely and emerged victorious.
He said the purpose of the gathering was to condemn the atrocities committed by the Soviet forces on the people of Afghanistan during their decade long occupation.
He said following suppression and persecution of invaders and allied communist regime, the people of Afghanistan secured a historic victory on April 28, 1992.
Halim said after huge scarifies, the mujahidin had been able to defeat the mighty Soviet forces in Afghanistan.
Gatherings marking April 28 are expected to take place in various parts of the country tomorrow.
