3 police killed as rebels briefly capture post
QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Three policemen were killed, two wounded and as many were missing after insurgents attacked their post in northwestern Badghis province on Wednesday, an official said.
Provincial Intelligence Chief Col. Mohammad Qayyum Angar told Pajhwok Afghan News the attack took place in Sabz Kotal locality on the outskirts of Qala-i-Naw, the provincial capital.
Bahauddin, a member of the provincial council member, confirmed militants had captured the police check-post in the area.
The Taliban claimed six police had been killed and one captured during the attack. Four Kalashnikovs and some ammunition were also seized while two vehicles were torched, the group said.
However, Angar claimed security forces had regained control of the check-post after it was captured by the Taliban. He said the situation was under control and the clash had ended.
He confirmed a police vehicle was torched, but rejected if militants had seized weapons.
Insurgents have lately intensified their activities in Badghis.
