12 rebels eliminated in fresh violence
KUNDUZ CITY/SHIBERGHAN/JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Nine militants have been killed and four civilians wounded during clashes and a bomb blast northern Jawzjan and Kunduz province, officials said on Thursday.
The civilians were wounded when a bomb-rigged bicycle went off in Kunduz City, the provincial capital, at around 10:30am, police spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The injured were rushed to hospital and they were said to be in stable condition. The target was a police vehicle, he added.
Shamsuddin, a shopkeeper in the area, said the explosion happened when an Afghan Local Police (ALP) vehicle passed by.
In Jawzjan, nine rebels were killed and eight others wounded during an hours-long clash with security forces and rebels in the Qush Tapa district.
Provincial police Chief Brig. Gen. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani said the fighting erupted after around 500 armed militants led by Taliban’s shadow governor for Jawazjan, stormed police posts in Qarae, Jarqduq,Biksar,Chqma Chaqur and Turkman Qaduq areas of the district.
He said the clashes lasted four hours and the situation was returning to normalcy and security forces had strengthened their positions.
Separately, three insurgents were killed when a landmine they were planting exploded in the Alingar locality of eastern Laghman province on Wednesday night.
Noman Hatifi, the 201st Selab Military Corps spokesman, one civilian and one policeman were also wounded in the explosion.
Meanwhile, the governor’s spokesman, Sarhadi Zwak, said militant commander Jamshid was among the three militants killed in the blast. He said Jamshid was involved in a series of terrorist attacks in the province.
He said another policeman and a civilian were wounded in two separate incidents of violence in Padish and Paravi localities of Alingar district.
In eastern Nangarhar, five Pakistanis were detained by security forces during an operation in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, a statement from the Selab Military corps said.
It said the Pakistanis had entered Afghanistan without having legal travelling documents.
