5-day book festival begins in Ghazni

5-day book festival begins in Ghazni

Apr 30, 2015 - 20:08

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Thousands of books have been put on display at a five-day book festival that commenced in southern Ghazni on Thursday, an organiser said.

Fida Kar told Pajhwok Afghan News that books written about literature, culture, research, politics, societyinfo-icon, religion, history and different other topics were on display at the festival. He added the festival was aimed at promoting reading habit and friendship with books culture.

Fida Kar said Abu Nasar Mushkan Library and Association planned to organise such book festivals in future so that people could get benefit from the events.

Asaddullah Jalalzai, a writer and journalist, said the festival would inspire the youth to study books. “Book festivals should be a culture not just an exhibition.”

Ali Reza, a university student in Ghazni, said such exhibitions should be organised several times a year.

There was a library at the Information and Culture department in Ghazni, but a suicide attack destroyed hundreds of books there. The library was yet to be reconstructed, he lamented.
