District intelligence officer killed in Farah
FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Armed motorcyclists gunned down a district intelligence official in the capital of western Farah province, the eighth incident of its kind taking place in the city in recent past, an official said on Saturday.
The Pushtrod district intelligence officer, Mohammad Hashim, was shot dead in Farah City’s fourth municipal district near his relatives’ home last night by two motorcyclists, the governor’s spokesman, Jawad Afghan, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the assassination that came days after armed motorcyclists shot dead a police sergeant and his father in Khandank area on the outskirts of Farah City.
While yesterday, a policeman was killed by a motorcycle rider in front of a police check post in the 1st municipal district in the city, a few days later another policeman was killed in Bagh Pul area. Three wedding guests were killed when two motorcyclists opened fire at them in Shurab area.
Baryalay Ghafari, a senior civil society activist in Farah, said target killings had worried local residents and security agencies had failed to stop such attacks.
But Jawad rejected if security forces had failed in maintain security in the city, saying the security situation in Farah was better than other provinces.
Provincial police chief Brig Gen Fazal Mohammad Samadayar said he had recently been appointed as the police chief and that he made every effort to maintain security and peace in the province.
Two armed motorcyclists were arrested and a Kalashnikov recovered from them on Friday in Bagh Pul area.
