Explosives on mules seized in Nangarhar
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Some explosive material brought from Pakistan on seven mules for suicide attacks were confiscated in Dur Baba district in eastern Nangrahar province, a security official said on Sunday.
Chief of staff Col Mohammad Ayub Hussainkhail told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosives were smuggled to Afghanistan for destructive purposes in Jalalabad city. “The explosive consists of 15 sacks of potassium chlorate, 13 sacks of ammonium chlorate, 3 wireless sets, rocket shells, explosive materials and remote control devices,” he noted.
Hussainkhail added, “The perpetrators managed to escape, benefitting from darkness of night”.
Hamish Gul, district chief, said, “the explosives were smuggled from Pakistan on mules through Dur Baba district to other areas of the country but the border police seized them”.
Gul said that search operation was underway to apprehend the culprits who smuggled the explosives.
Separately, Ahmedzia Abidzai, governor spokesman, said five Taliban fighters were killed and three wounded when Taliban insurgents raided a police check post in Kot district. Four Afghan Local Police (ALP) personals were also wounded in the gun battle, he added.
Abidzai said that militants had left behind huge cache of arms and ammunition.
The militants have not commented about the incident so far.
