12 killed, 18 injured in Ghazni clash
GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Four Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel and eight militants were killed during an hours-long gun-battle in the Ab Band district of southern Ghazni province on Thursday, an official said.
Another 12 rebels and six ALP men were wounded in the clash that lasted six hours in the Randakhel area, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News. Shafiq Nang said the clash broke out after insurgents stormed ALP check-posts in the area.
Noorullah, a resident of the area, said the fighting erupted at around 11am and lasted several hours. He said security officials suffered casualties after reinforcements arrived late.
A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed five ALP officials were killed and scores others wounded in the attack. He confirmed the killing of only one fighter and injuries two others in the clash.
Separately, clashes were underway in different areas of Arjistan and Gero districts between security forces and the Taliban, but no report about causalities could be ascertained.
