May 09, 2015 - 12:26

MAIMANA (Pajhwok):  Four militants have been killed and six others wounded when heavily-armed insurgents mounted attack on police check posts in northwestern Faryab province, an official said Saturday.

A number of militants stormed police check posts in Dewana Khana, Bukhari Qala, Tejam in Almar district of the province, Mohammad Saleh Saleh, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said that Afghan security forces and Afghan Local police (ALP) repulsed militants’ attack in which four militants were killed and six others injured.

Two dreaded Talibaninfo-icon commanders, including Mullahinfo-icon Farooq alias Qari Omar and Mullah Rasool were also killed.

Taliban left behind two dead bodies of their companions, he added. Col. Sayed Aqa, police chief, said police seized huge cache of ammunition.

Separately, Bismillah, a police official, said scores of militants attacked Chechekhto early Saturday morning. The gun battle is still ongoing.

Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesperson, said a policeman was killed in roadside mine in Almar district.

ALP and an armed local were killed and two others wounded last week when Taliban attacked them in the same district.
