Traffic police official gunned down in Farah
FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): A traffic police official was gunned down in the capital of western Farah province on Tuesday morning; the ninth hit-and-run attack in recent past involving motorcyclists.
Farah police chief Brig. Gen. Fazl Mohammad Samadyar told Pajhwok Afghan News the traffic police official was killed by gunmen on a motorcycle in Sang Zoor area of Farah City at about 7am.
The slain official, Mohammad, was on his way to duty place on a bike when came under attack. The attackers also took away a hunting gun from the deceased.
Mohammad was the ninth person to be killed this way, though no group has claimed responsibility for his murder.
About 10 days ago, the deputy police chief for the Pushtrud district was killed in Farah City while a policeman and his father were gunned down 22 days ago in Kohdank area.
The son and father were killed a day after a policeman was killed by two motorcyclists in the limits of the first police district, few days after gunmen sprayed a wedding procession with bullets in the Shorab area, killing the groom, his father and a brother.
When the police chief was asked about their failure to prevent such incidents and arrest those involved, he said he would talk to the counterterrorism chief at the provincial police headquarters.
But the counterterrorism chief said he was not authorised to speak to the media.
