Cabinet disapproves draft media regulation law
KABUL (Pajhwok): Public media regulation draft that was presented to the cabinet meeting by the Ministry of Justice was not ratified due to some flaws, Presidential Palace said on Thursday.
The draft was prepared in four chapters and 14 articles aimed at regulating the activities of public and private media, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
The Ministry of Justice has said the draft was also aimed at supporting activities of mass media, promotion of independent media, and providing facilities for media activities and supporting media workers.
The statement added the draft was presented to cabinet meeting after consultation with law commission of the ministry, lawyers’ association head and human rights watch officials.
In Wednesday’s cabinet session, the Ministry of Justice was tasked to bring needed changes to the draft in coordination with information, technology and communications and information and culture ministries and refer it to the next cabinet session.
