Gunmen torch school in Logar
PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Two unidentified armed men on Wednesday night torched a school in central Logar province, an official said.
Mohammad Shahpoor Arab, spokesman of education department, told Pajhwok Afghan News two armed men beaten security guards of the school and set the school on fire, leaving all documents burnt to ashes.
Other rooms of the schools remained safe except the record room, Arab said, adding the school would remain closed for two days.
More than 800 male and female students study in morning and evening shifts in Shahid Ghulam Nabi Samsoor High School.
Horya, an eighth grade student, requested militants not to burn educational institutions. She said it was a dastardly act.
Brig. Gen. Abdul Hakim Isaqzai, police chief, also confirmed the incident and said investigations had been started but no one had been arrested as of yet.
Late Ghulam Nabi Samsoor was the principal of the school who was killed by militants three years ago. It was third time that the school had been attacked.
