9 rebels dead in fresh bout of Kandahar violence
KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Nine Taliban fighters were killed and two others wounded in different security incidents on Saturday in different parts of southern Kandahar province, an official said.
Zia Durrani, police spokesperson, told Pajhwok Afghan News a suicide bomber was planning to storm a check post but police shot him dead along with his four companions before they could reach their intended target.
The dead bodies of militants were taken by police, he said, adding that security official recovered some ammunition after the firefight was over.
Separately, four Taliban rebels were killed when their car hit a roadside bomb, Durrani said.
Meanwhile, police repulsed Taliban’s attack when they attacked a police check post, Durrani said, adding that police defused 10 land mines.
Militants have not commented on the accidents. Taliban announced spring offensive in southern Kandahar and the ensuing clashes and landmines left several security personnel and civilians dead.
