Deputy CEO stresses electoral reforms
KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on Saturday stressed immediate reforms in poll panels, saying it was one of the major agreements based on which the unity government was formed.
First deputy CEO Eng. Mohammad Khan was of the opinion with electoral reforms people’s confidence and trust would be restored on the election commissions, a statement from his office said.
Mohammad Khan said it has been seven months since formation of the unity government but tangible reforms yet to be introduced. He added parliamentary elections were also getting nearer.
Deputy CEO also urged government leaders to take up the issue seriously in order to resolve the electoral issues.
Earlier, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani appointed MP Shukria Barekzai to head the electoral reforms commission, but faced veto from CEO Abdullah Abdullah.
Later, Jandad Spinghar was appointed to head the commission but the commission still has not initiated its work.
