Governor, police chief involvement alleged in Kunduz insecurity
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Mesharano Jirg delegation on Sunday accused governor and police chief of northern Kunduz province for having hands in recent incidents of insecurity in the province.
The delegation head alleged the two top officials for sending wrong reports about security situations on the ground, but governor and police chief had rejected the allegations as wrong and baseless.
Recently insurgents had intensified their activities and targeted security forces check-post in different parts of Kunduz, however, security officials said the situations has been controlled after the killing of scores of rebels.
Eng. Afzal Shamil, head of the delegation, who briefed the upper house about his visit to Kunduz said Governor and Police Chief sent wrong reports to the centre.
He said the Kunduz City, the provincial capital, had converted to military base and Taliban were still fighting security forces at the entrance of provincial capital.
He said around 16,000 families had been displaced due to the fear of air strike, while clearing operations was still underway in most parts of the province.
