Woman, taxi driver killed in separate incidents
MAIMANA/KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): A police officer shot dead his wife and injured his five-year-old daughter in the Qaisar district of northern Faryab province.
Qaiser district chief, Abdul Jamil, identified the police officer as Adul Ghani, who used a Kalashnikov to kill his wife due to a family dispute.
He said the injured girl had been shifted to a hospital in Maimana, the provincial capital. However, he had no information about her condition. Ghani surrendered to police after committing the crime, he said.
A village council chief, Ahmad Farhad, said the slain woman was 25 years old. Her husband had allegedly listened to her telephonic conversation with another man, he said.
The incident comes days after a local police commander shot dead a 16-year-old boy in the Pashtun Kot district and a girl committed suicide by hanging in the Khwaja Sabz Posh district.
In southern Kandahar province, police opened fire at a taxi, killing its driver in the provincial capital on Sunday.
Police spokesman Zia Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News police signaled the taxi to stop in the Sardar Madad Khan Square, but he did not stop.
Police then opened fire at the vehicle, seriously injuring its driver, who later succumbed to his wounds in hospital.
The policeman who opened fire at the taxi had been arrested and was being interrogated, Durrani said.
