300 suspects apprehended in Laghman
JALALABAD/CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): At least 300 suspects have been apprehended during a search operation by Afghan National Army (ANA) commandos in Mia Dhair and Murcha Khail areas in Alishang district in eastern Laghman province, an official said on Tuesday.
Sarhadi Zwak, spokesman for the acting governor, told Pajhwok Afghan News three militants were killed and 300 suspects were arrested during search operation and they were being interrogated.
Acting Governor Said Fazlullah Mujadadi directed security forces to prevent civilian casualties.
Said Mohammad, a local resident, said scores of security forces were seen in the area and started door-to-door search. Gun shots were heard in the area amid fear of casualties inflicted on militants.
Taliban have not yet commented on the arrests as of yet.
Brig. Gen. Abdul Kabir Faiq, police chief of Tagab district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that several areas had been purged of insurgents. He said five militants were killed and a policeman wounded in military operation.
Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesman, said four policemen were killed and three others wounded in a bomb blast in Tagab district.
