CEO wants computerized ID cards drive accelerated
KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Tuesday underlined the need to accelerate the electronic Identity Cards distribution process.
“We know the importance of electronic-ID cards. The computerized ID cards could help prevent fraud and irregularities during election,” he added.
Expressing satisfaction over surge in revenue of communication sector, the CEO said seven percent of the government expenditure had been backed by the revenue generated from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT).
The contract of computerized ID cards distribution was inked four years ago, but its distribution did not take place till now.
Muhammad Muhaqiq, second deputy of CEO who was present on the occasion, termed none availability of electronic ID cards as main reason of massive fraud in previous elections.
Abdul Razaq Wahidi, minister of Communication and Information Technology, said besides distribution of electronic ID cards, the minister would begin computerized registration of passports, licenses, documents and diplomas as well.
