Chess competition being held in Faryab
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The Olympic Committee of northern Faryab province for the first time held chess competitions.
Abdul Wahab Majidi, Faryab Olympic Committee head, said the contest was aimed at persuading youth and chess-lovers to take part in different kinds of social events.
Ultimately, he said, they would elect better players among 24 participants for Faryab chess team to take part in national-level competitions.
The contest, he said, would last for two days.
“Due to lack of facilities and proper place, I hold this competition in my own office,” he said, adding it was the participants who took care of the finances.
Najibullah Wafa, a participant, welcomed the move in the province, saying this sport was a good sort of entertainment for youth.
He urged officials to support sports and athletes in the province.
