Week-long book exhibition begins in Paktika

SHAHRAN (Pajhwok): Scores of civil societyinfo-icon members, young people, university students and government officials participated in the first ever week-long book fair in southeastern Paktika province on Wednesday.

Bashir Muhammadi, director information and culture, told Pajhwok Afghan News the number of book readers had increased over the past few years and people appreciated civil society members and ‘Lincoln’ educationinfo-icon center for organizing the book fair.

“The book reading culture should be developed among students since it is mandatory for development, education, information and capacity building of human beings,” he said.

The last week of the recent month in Afghanistaninfo-icon calendar is named as ‘Book week” throughout Afghanistan.

Yasin Gul, a resident, regarded book as good friend which guides man towards development. “Study culture recently has been developed in the province but social media such as Facebook, twitter and others have affected book reading culture too,” he added. 

Said Anwar Saadat, director of Lincoln, said that 3,000 people were facilitated with computer and about 500 others with book reading in his center.

Abdulkarim Sharnwal, a teacher, said that he had studied several different books in Lincoln center in last two years.
