23 Taliban killed in Shindand battle
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Security forces on Thursday repulsed a massive Taliban attack on the Shindand district of western Herat province, killing 23 insurgents, an official said.
Ihsanullah Hayat, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News insurgents attacked security posts in Maldar, Chowk Zoghali and Arg localities, sparking a heavy firefight that lasted seven hours until the rebels were forced to retreat.
Hayat said security forces escaped unhurt, but the Taliban lost their 23 fighters with another three sustaining injuries.
Azizullah Jami, a doctor at Khwaja Abdullah Ansari hospital, said an 18-year-old civilian was brought to the hospital with injuries from the scene.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
