Stanikzai introduced for vote of confidence
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Saturday appointed Masoom Stanikzai as acting Defence Minister and introduced him to parliament for a vote of confidence as his Defence Minister-designate.
The president issued a decree that said Stanikzai had been appointed as acting defence minister under Article 64, clause 13, of the Constitution.
“Under Article 64 clause 13 of the Constitution, I approve Masoom Stanikzai as the Defence Minister-designate,” the president said in his decree.
Presidential spokesman Ajmal Obaid Abidy told Pajhwok Afghan News Stanikzai was introduced to the Wolesi Jirga through the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs for a trust vote.
A former minister, Stanikzai was born in 1958 in the Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province.
Stanikzai, who served as national security advisor to former president Hamid Karzai, had twice injured in suicide attacks.
Abidy also said the president had appointed Gen. Qadam Shah as the Chief of Army Staff and Gen. Abdul Khaliq as deputy defence minister.
