2 gunmen firing from Kandahar building
KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Two gunmen holed up a building were firing at security forces in the capital of southern Kandahar province on Monday night, an official said.
The governor’s spokesman, Samim Khpalwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News the gunmen had been trading fire with police since 8:30pm in the limits of the fourth police district in Darul Uloom area.
He said the target of the gunmen was unknown, but a religious seminary and a police post existed in the area
Police had cordoned off the area and the exchange of fire was underway, said Khpalwak, who had no information about casualties.
A resident of the area, Izzatullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News he was on his way home when gunshots rang out at about 8:30pm.
He said people started running in all directions as the firing began. Police had reached the scene and blocked roads leading to the Darual Uloom area and besieged the building where the two gunmen had taken position, the resident said.
There has been no word from the Taliban about the incident.
