Scores of rebels dead, wounded in Helmand fighting
LASHKARGAH/ KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): At least 23 militants have been killed, 13 wounded and three others detained in Marja, Nad Ali and Sangin districts of southern Helmand province, the 215th Maiwand Military corps said in a statement.
Eighteen insurgents were killed and 13 others injured in overnight attacks by insurgents on police check posts in different areas of Sangin district, the statement said.
Five more assailants were eliminated and three others wounded in a clash with security forces in Marja district, the statement said, adding three Taliban fighters were captured by Afghan security forces in clearing operation in Nad Ali district.
Meanwhile, Taliban claimed killing 27 security forces and capturing six check posts in Nawzad district.
In northern Baghlan, six people, including three children, were wounded in two rocket attacks in Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital.
The first rocket landed near the Hakim Sanai High School on main road at around 12:20pm while the second hit the textile factory, Javed Basharat, police spokesman said.
But, Gul Mohammad Wardak, surgeon at the civil hospital, said six people, including three children and two women, who got injured in the rocket attack were brought in to the hospital.
Elsewhere, at least five people, including three students, were wounded in a blast that took place in the central Mosque in Khost City, the provincial capital of southeastern Khost province, an official said.
Police Chief Brig. Gen. Faizullah Ghairat told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place at around 12:00 pm on Tuesday.
He said the injured were rushed to civil hospital and they are said to be in stable condition.
But, security official who wished to go unnamed said eight people, including three students were injured in the blast.
